Poetry Workshop with Joy Gaines-Friedler: Tentatively scheduled at Joy’s house (but possibly moved to The Farmington/Farmington Hills Public Library), Thursdays, February 16, 23, March 2, 9, 16 & 23, 12:30pm – 2:30pm. Be prepared to be wowed and excited by your own work! Poetry is art. We will look at your work and the works of Robert Frost, Claudia Emerson, Jim Daniels and B.H. Fairchild. We will discuss individuality of voice, craft techniques (music, story, imagery) and intention. There will be prompts to help you ink-up the empty page, but also opportunity to bring in “finished” poems and get a good reading from good readers. I will take your work home with me and comment extensively. This class will benefit the advanced writer but is open to the beginner as well. Class is limited to 8. Joy Gaines-Friedler is the author of two full-length books of poetry, Dutiful Heart, and Like Vapor. A third book is forthcoming. Her work has been nominated for a Pushcart and is widely published in over 50 literary journals and anthologies. She does readings and workshops throughout the country and teaches for PCAP (Prison Creative Arts Project) through the University of Michigan, and for other non-profits in Michigan.
