Summer Poetry Scarab Mondays
Springfed Arts continues our summer series of poetry readings Monday nights at 7pm, August 3 & August 10. They take place at the historic Scarab Club, now air conditioned. The readings are free and open to the public. Located at 217 Farnsworth, Detroit; across from the DIA. Free and safe parking is plentiful.

The July 10 show celebrated the winners of Springfed Arts-Metro Detroit Writers Poetry and Prose contest.
Hosted in fine style by Olga Klekner, the event was well attended and the readings all were riveting. It was made apparent that this organization’s members are many of the finest poets and writers in the Detroit area. Third place prose winner Dennis Hurley began the night with his poignant story titled Feathers. Linda Nemec Foster made the trek from Grand Rapids to read her honorable mentioned poem Sleeping in a Room Filled with the Past. Christine Rhein, whose collection Wild Flight is now in its second printing read her poem Ria, Remembering. Randy Schwartz spoke of his trip to Africa and read his honorably mentioned Letter from Northern Morocco. Maria Costantini gave a performance of her 2nd prize prose story My Pompeian Orphan Dress. Zilka Joseph read her 3rd place poetry finisher Consider the Sari. John Jeffire gave a rousing and ribald performance of his 1st place prose piece The Deep End. Sophia Rivkin, the 1st place Poetry winner, gave a beautiful reading of her entry Chicken Soup.
