New Orleans Poetry & Music Bash Friday, December 9th at 7:30pm at Wayne State University Featuring Kalamu ya Salaam, John Sinclair & His
Blues Scholars, Mark you calendars and save Friday, December 9th at 7:30pm for a major poetry event honoring three New Orleans poets & writers Kalamu ya Salaam, Broadside Press Poet Arthur Pfister, former Detroit-New Orleans Poet legend John Sinclair & His Blues Scholars and South Louisiana Poet and WSU Professor Emeriti Alvin Aubert plus Detroits M.L. Liebler & The Magic Poetry Band (featuring Faruq Z. Bey, Ron English, Jef Reynoldz & Bill Hulet). The event will be hosted by Detroit poet, Dudley Randall Biographer and WSU Africana Studies Chair Dr. Melba Joyce Boyd. This event is FREE & Open to the Public, and it will take place inside the David Adamany Undergraduate Librarys Bernath Auditorium (www.wayne.edu) in the center of the Wayne State University Campus. The event is sponsored by WSUs Africana Studies, Springfed Arts: Metro Detroit Writers & WSUs Student Organization The Wayne Writers Forum. Kalamu ya Salaam is the founder of NOMMO Literary Society. NOMMO is a New Orleans-based creative writing workshop whose members are published in national anthologies such as Dark Eros, Kente Cloth, Catch the Fire, and 360° A Revolution of Black Poets. He is also a founder of Runagate Press, which focuses on New Orleans and African-heritage cultures worldwide and the leader of the WordBand, a poetry performance ensemble that combines poetry with blues, jazz and other forms of music. Kalamu has been living in Nashville since Hurricane Katrina. Arthur Pfister (Arturo) is a former Writer-in-Residence at Texas Southern University, has had his works appear in such diverse publications as The American Poetry Review, The Minnesota Review, From a Bend in the River, The Chicory Review, and The New Orleans Tribune. Presently, he is the Neighborhood Gallerys Poet-in-Residence and is assistant professor of English at Southern University at New Orleans living in Connecticut due to Hurricane Katrina. John Sinclair is the one of the founders of The Detroit Artists Workshop, form manager of the MC5 rock band, internationally known jazz & blues poet and longtime Detroit and New Orleans radio personality. John is currently living in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Alvin Aubert is the nationally acclaimed author of several books including the Braodside Press release Against the Blues, South Louisiana & Other Poems, When Winter Come and the recent The Way I Do. He is,also, the founder of the legendary Obsidian Review.. Rounding out the program will be M.L. Liebler & MaPoBa featuring Faruq Z. Bey, Ron English, Jef Reynoldz & Bill Hulet.
