Message from the Director
Dear supporters and past members of Springfed Arts-Metro Detroit Writers—

WE REALLY, REALLY, REALLY NEED YOUR SUPPORT!! We have survived for over 5 years now as a separate literary arts organization not beholden to (or stifled by) any huge, bureaucratic, non-profit or company in Southeast Michigan, and we have continued our dedicated service to you and all writers and lovers of literature in this wonderful community.  It is important for as many of you who can afford it to now come forward on behalf of us all to help  save the cool literary scene we have built here over the past several decades from The PRC to Writer’s Voice to MDW.  We receive no money from the State, Federal Government or companies.  Everything we have done for the past five years (Workshops, Classes, Downtown Series, Opera House Series, Jazz Cafe, Lit Fest on the Lawn, Labor Arts, Walloon Writers’ Retreat, Print Gallery Readings, Oakwood Workshops and many special readings) has been through your kindness and generosity of our  annual members. However, we have steadily taken in less membership money since 2007.  I think we ran everything last year on a budget of less than $7000.

Remember, John D. Lamb and I DO NOT GET PAID AT ALL.  We do this for the betterment of our artists and our cultural community because we are “true believers.” Please help keep these programs going by  renewing your membership now online if you are able to this year, and if you can give a little more, please do so.  REMEMBER-ALL MONEY GIVEN TO SPRINGFED IS 100% DEDUCTIBLE ON YOUR INCOME TAXES!!! Many non profits cannot do this for you.
I believe we will survive these hard times because ultimately we are all “true believers,” and as Detroiters, we know how to keep on keeping on.  If possible, please join or renew for 2009. Thank You! Sincerely, M.L. Liebler, Director MDW
